Case study

R.W. Cunningham Metals

The RW Cunningham Metals website shown in a browser window: the headline “The UK’s choice for Catalytic Converter Recycling” over a photograph of scrap catalytic converters.

The brief

Project objectives

  • Look like a licensed recycler to a trade buyer checking them out
  • Explain catalytic converter collection clearly enough to remove the first phone call
  • Put the licences somewhere obvious and verifiable
  • Build on clean foundations so the pages can be found for the trade searches

What we did

Cunningham Metals recycle catalytic converters and scrap metal from a yard in Mexborough, South Yorkshire. Almost all of their work is trade — scrapyards, dismantlers, repair centres, garages and fleet operators — and trade buyers do their research before they ring. The old presence did not survive that research.

The brief was to look like a licensed, properly run recycler rather than a yard with a website. We took the cue from the large European recyclers the client admired: clean light backgrounds, full-bleed hero imagery, alternating image-and-text sections and a clear grid of services. Barlow Condensed for headings and Lato for body, over a navy and royal blue palette that reads industrial without being grim.

The site runs to five pages, each with one job: what they collect, how collection works, the licences they hold, who they are, and how to reach them. The copy was written for someone deciding whether to trust a stranger with a load of converters, so it leads with licensing and process rather than with adjectives.
