Branding & Design

Identity, print and photography for businesses that have outgrown the logo someone made in an afternoon.

Looking like the business you already are

Plenty of good businesses are held back by how they look. The work is excellent, the reviews are excellent, and the logo was drawn by a friend in 2011 on a laptop that no longer exists.

Branding here is not a workshop and a forty-page document about your values. It is a mark, a palette, type that works, and a set of real things — website, van, signage, cards, social — that all look like they came from the same place.

We do the photography too, which is usually the part that changes how a business is perceived fastest and the part most people leave out.

Nobody decides to hire you because of your logo. They decide whether to take you seriously.

What a brand job looks like

From sketch to signage

01

Understand the room

Who you are up against locally, what they all look like, and where the space is. Most trades in most towns look identical, which makes standing out cheaper than it sounds.

A grid of eight near-identical local business marks with one standing out. Step 1 of the branding process.

02

Design the mark

Two or three real directions, shown on the things you will actually use — a van, a sign, a phone screen — rather than floating on a white square.

A wordmark shown where it will actually be used — on a van, a sign and a phone screen. Step 2 of the branding process.

03

Build the kit

Colours, type, spacing and a short guide anyone can follow. Enough rules to stay consistent, not so many that nobody bothers.

A brand kit: four colour swatches above a type specimen for Bricolage Grotesque and Manrope. Step 3 of the branding process.

04

Put it on everything

Website, print, vehicle graphics, workwear, social templates and photography, rolled out in an order that suits your budget.

Six application tiles — website, van, sign, cards, workwear and social. Step 4 of the branding process.

Identity

Logo, wordmark, palette, type and the rules for using them. Delivered in every format you will ever be asked for.

Print and signage

Cards, brochures, boards, vehicle graphics and exhibition kit, artworked properly and sent to press without drama.

Photography

Commercial photography done here, so the pictures fit the pages they were made for instead of being cropped to fit.

Consistent everywhere

The same business on your van, your website and your invoice. Consistency is most of what people mean by professional.

Owned outright

You get the working files and the full rights. No annual licence, no holding your logo hostage.

Done once

A good identity should last a decade. We design for that rather than for whatever is fashionable this year.

Branding is just the promise that people will meet the same business every time they see you.

Rebrand, or refresh?

Often you do not need a rebrand. You need the existing mark tidied, a proper palette, one typeface instead of four, and some decent photographs. That is a fraction of the cost and most of the benefit.

We will tell you which one you are looking at in the first conversation, and we will not talk you into the bigger job.

Starting from scratch, or starting again?

Whether it is a new business that needs everything or an old identity that has stopped fitting, tell us where you are and we will tell you what we would do.
